It is also an extraordinary power or influence seemingly from a supernatural source

Arthur C Clark said, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
When electricity was first being offered to the public back in the late 1800s most people were afraid of it likening it to magic. They could see a chunk of coal or a bottle of oil. Setting these a fire would produce heat and light, as well as smoke and toxic gasses. But people were comfortable with coal and oil thinking they knew what the light was being caused by.
