show moreReferred to as the Forest City, this locale is notable for being the birthplace of celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling, and Rachel McAdams. Additionally, from 1959 to 1984, it was the site of the highest known concentration of serial killers globally.
Over a span of 25 years, the city experienced 29 horrific murders. Of these, thirteen were linked to three individuals who were ultimately apprehended and convicted: Gerald Thomas Archer, infamously known as the London Chamber Maid Slayer; Christian McGee, referred to as the Mad Slasher; and Russell Johnson, known as the Balcony Killer.
Sixteen of the murders remain unresolved; however, a recently published book, drawing from recovered police files, presents a new theory regarding this dark period in the city’s history, revealing the identities of two suspected serial killers.
Dennis Alsop, a detective sergeant with the Ontario provincial police, served in the London area from 1950 to 1979. He meticulously documented his findings and research on the murders, keeping them concealed until his passing in 2012.
