For our eight episode, we had the pleasure of meeting with Franco-Algerian artist and film director Katia Kameli. Born in 1973, Katia Kameli has developed a research-based approach on history and memory. With a variety of media such as film, photography, and installations, she explores the power of narratives and images in the construction of identities. From narrating the story of a postcard salesman in Algeria, to finding the surprising sources of our childhood fables, her work unveils what we often overlook. Katia’s story is rooted in her multicultural heritage interlacing French and Algerian identities, and her work is nourished by this experience. She shared with us how she developed her practice to cast a new light on obliterated parts of history.
