show moreIn 1950, she made history as the first woman to play in a Little League Baseball game. However, after the season concluded, a Little League meeting resulted in a ban on girls participating in the sport. It took until 1974 and the landmark lawsuit won by Maria Pepe to overturn this discriminatory policy and allow girls to play once again.
Today, at the age of 81, Kathryn is honoured in the "Diamond Dreams" permanent exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., recognizing the significant contributions of women in the sport. In a moment of pure joy, she stepped onto the field at Yankee Stadium, the iconic "House That Ruth Built," at the age of 70 in 2006, to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Though the ball bounced, she cherished the experience. Kathryn has also had the honour of throwing the first pitch for the Oakland A's.
