Juneteenth was just acknowledged in June of 2021 as a federal holiday for the first time. Sounds familiar, yes, typically this system is LATE to the party.
Is it something to celebrate?
In 1865 on June 19th the NEWS of the emancipation had finally reached the folks in the former confederacy of Texas - which means their FREEDOM had come sooner than this day in 1865 that we now commemorate as the end of slavery and many gather to celebrate.
But why do we celebrate such a day? Are we truly free?
