Rose Ribalta is a Cuban former professional boxer who competed in the heavyweight division from 1982 to 1999. He is best known for his fight against Mike Tyson in 1986.
On the 17th of August 1986, Ribalta faced Mike Tyson in a fight broadcast on HBO prepaid. At the time of the fight, Ribalta was ranked #10 in the WBC ranking. In the fight, Ribalta was knocked down three times and eventually lost by TKO in the 10th round, when the fight was stopped after Tyson's next series of strikes landed on Ribalta, who was pressed against the ropes. In 2014, Tyson rated Ribalta as the strongest opponent he faced, and the one with the best chin.
It is said the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Well, sometimes it’s true. José Ribalta is a 6 foot 6 Cuban Heavyweight. He is taller than Mike Tyson, but he still lost the fight. Mike Tyson gave Jose Ribalta a powerful right hook to the body. Right uppercut combo. But Ribalta got back up and continued the fight in the 2nd round. Mike Tyson knocked down Ribalta in the 10th round & won the fight. Mike Tyson said Ribalta was knocked down but he wasn’t knocked out. It has been said to this day Jose Ribalta wants a rematch against Mike Tyson.
