For a different more nuanced take on this debate I recommend Ezra Klein's latest podcast "Harris Had A Theory O Trump, And It Was Right". Pretty amazing and informative.
Good points about the debate John. I was waiting all day to watch the debate, but when it happened I missed the beginning and tuned in at about 15 minutes in. I thought VP Harris won the debate handily, but I do recall a few little bullying tactics that I think might have appealed to the Trump-leaning. One was the crack Trump used to bully Harris a bit, "I'm speaking, does that sound familiar"? The other was his silly remark about him saying that Joe Biden hated her. Harris was not distracted, and perhaps Trump put so much energy into not interrupting it backed him up a bit. One thing I did not notice in the first viewing was that the first question directed at VP Harris, "Are the American people better off today than they were 4 years ago" Kamala completely dodged that question. Trump said nothing. I wonder if Trump is angling for a second debate so close to election day where he can spring all of his accusations on her before people vote? I detest Trump but I am wondering if is clever enough to pull a rope-a-dope of that magnitude? Harris accomplished a lot - meaning to me that she projected the appearance of a strong woman who could do the job. Maybe a little too much facial expressiveness and laughing. If there is a next debate she must describe and justify her positions - how is she going to ensure that years from now she can be re-elected by making sure Americans are better off?
