With the recent release of their fourth album Detritus of the Final Age, thrash metallers Harlott have broken free from the trilogy of albums that started their career and now explore new territory.

Vocalist/guitarist Andrew Hudson sat down with HEAVY to talk about the new album and his take on everything surrounding it.

“I wanted to try a bunch of things (with this album),” he stressed. “We're four albums deep now so I'm getting a little bit antsy in my pantsy. There's definitely a couple of things I wanted to try out on this one so while it is a thrash metal album at heart there is a fair bit of variation on the record and I'm pretty happy with how it all came out. I definitely don't regret any of the decisions that were made. There's a possibility that we will expand on that from here on out."

When pressed on what those variations are Hudson went into greater detail.

"Slower sections, darker sections, a bit of blast there... there's some melodic passages and songs that barely creep over 100 bpm for the entire track which is unheard of for us. There's even some nine-minute songs on there which is a little bit self-indulgent but I couldn't help myself (laughs). The song tells me when it's finished, not the other way around."

In the full interview, Andrew goes into more detail about the album and recording it, introduces us to the two new members and what they bring to the band, speaks about breaking the cycle of a trilogy of albums, the freedom that comes with it, being a band in the thrash genre and what it means to them and more.
