Scripture Texts are Leviticus 19.1-4 and 1Peter 1.13-25 based on the subject, “Great Expectations.”
You and I today are in the race of life. God has great expectations of us. He expects us to run our race well. In other words, He expects us to live our lives according to His plans. He expects us to live holy. Look at the text in 1Peter 1.13-25.
1. To meet God’s expectations we get ready, we get set, and we go. (vv13-14)
2. To meet God’s expectations we must know how to win. (vv15-16)
3. To meet God’s expectations we must embrace our freedom. (vv17-21)
4. To meet God’s expectations we run the race of life with purity and love. (vv22-25)
God has great expectations of us. In this race of life, there will be many distractions, lies from the enemy, and temptations. When temptations come, let’s choose purity over perceived pleasure. Let’s choose God’s will over our will. Let’s choose yielding to the Holy Spirit over yielding to our flesh. Let’s run our race with excellence!
Don’t miss this. The athletes in the race are competing against each other. You and I are in the race of life competing against our former selves. Let me remind of us v14. God expects us to be holy! Am I growing more like Jesus every day? The good news is we can meet God’s expectations because He placed His spirit in us! Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. Great expectations? With God, yes, we can!
Amen.
