I am Canadian. I live just across the river in the only city SOUTH of the American border. I watch wayyy too much MSNBC and I am afraid for your democratic republic. Something has to give. Like an amendment to your constitution that balances or abolishes the Electoral College. It is the thing that right wing America depends upon the most for electing Republican Presidents because they can get the biggest bang for their buck from a mostly white, Christian rural, undereducated population. If you elected senators by population, there’d be more than two in each state like California or New York. But I also fear for Canada. More and more of the MAGA right attitude towards government is spilling into Canada. With bumper stickers and flags that say Fk Trudeau. And people who don’t know who to blame for the short staffing of hospitals and schools (which are ran by the provinces). The kinder gentler way to solve differences through education and conversation and through elections seems to be tossed out the window while some option to air their hate and bigotry on social media. Yours is a beautiful country. I travelled extensively in the 80’s. I hope it survives this nationalistic rhetoric intact.
