The nightmarishly dark images of 16th century Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch are credited with inspiring countless generations of artists to explore the realms of consciousness to create works that defy the mundane.

Recently, a Kansas City art museum discovered one of the Renaissance master’s works in their closet- “The Temptation of St. Anthony,” which portrays the saint surrounded by strange beasts and a figure smoking something out of a glass pipe. St. Anthony was the patron saint of those who suffered from Ergotism, a deadly hallucinogenic disease that plagued people in the Middle ages.

Today, comedian Meredith Kachel joins us to take a look at Ergotism and how it eventually led to the discovery of LSD, which changed art, culture and music forever.
