I really don't think that the theory about him intentionally disappearing holds much weight. I've been in this area before and the idea that one could just run off into those mountains and somehow come out the other side to start a new life is nonsense. The terrain and weather are dominant and unforgiving. I don't care how much traveling he has done, but he couldn't survive out there. If he truly ran off into the woods, then he is unfortunately dead and gone.
