Story Transcript:

Ga: Lá amháin, i lár an tsamhraidh, bhí triúr cairde - Sean, Aoife, agus Cillian - ag siúl ar bharr Aillte an Mhothair.
En: One day, in the middle of summer, three friends - Sean, Aoife, and Cillian - were walking on top of the Cliffs of Moher.

Ga: Bhí an ghrian ag spalpadh go geal sa spéir gorm agus bhí na tonnta ag briseadh thíos fúthu.
En: The sun was shining brightly in the blue sky and the waves were crashing below them.

Ga: Bhí siad tar éis teacht ó thaobh an domhain éagsúla chun an radharc álainn seo a fheiceáil le chéile.
En: They had come from different parts of the world to see this beautiful sight together.

Ga: Shocraigh siad suí síos ag imeall na haille agus tús a chur leis an lón a bhí leo.
En: They decided to sit down at the edge of the cliff and start their lunch.

Ga: Bhí ciseáin bheaga acu ina raibh clúdaigh tíre ceangailte go docht timpeall orthu.
En: They had small baskets with cloth covers tightly tied around them.

Ga: D'oscail Sean a chiseán gan mórán aire agus rug sé ar an chéad cheapaire a chonaic sé.
En: Sean opened his basket without much attention and grabbed the first sandwich he saw.

Ga: Gan smaoineamh, thosaigh sé ag ithe go fonnmhar.
En: Without thinking, he started eating eagerly.

Ga: Ach níorbh iad na ceapairí ciúine, gnáthacha a bhí sna ceapairí seo.
En: But the sandwiches weren't the quiet, ordinary sandwiches.

Ga: Níor thuig Sean go raibh sé tar éis greim a bhreith ar cheapaire Aoife, a bhí líonta le cáis Ghaelach spíosrach a bhí chomh te le tine chnámh.
En: Little did Sean know, he had taken a bite of Aoife's sandwich, which was filled with spicy Irish cheese as hot as a coal fire.

Ga: Tar éis an chéad ghiota, thosaigh a bhéal ag dólas.
En: After the first bite, his mouth began to burn.

Ga: Chuir an blas géar iontas mór air agus thosaigh a shúile ag uisce.
En: The sharp taste surprised him and his eyes started to water.

Ga: Rinne Aoife agus Cillian gáire fúthu féin agus iad ag féachaint ar a chara bocht ag streachailt.
En: Aoife and Cillian laughed at themselves while watching their poor friend struggle.

Ga: "Ó, Sean, an cheapaire sin, is liomsa é!
En: "Oh, Sean, that sandwich belongs to me!"

Ga: " a dúirt Aoife ag caoineadh le gáire.
En: Aoife said, laughing through her tears.

Ga: "Tá an cáis sin níos teo ná gráinne ghaineamh i lár an tsamhraidh!
En: "That cheese is hotter than a midsummer's grain of sand!"

Ga: "D'fhéach Sean ar Aoife, agus é fós ag sraothartach agus eachtar ag teacht ina scórnach.
En: Sean looked at Aoife, still struggling and an outsider feeling scorned.

Ga: Bhí a aghaidh chomh dearg leis an gculaith dhiabhail.
En: His face was as red as the devil’s cloak.

Ga: Bhí Cillian ag iarraidh gan gáire a dhéanamh, ach ní raibh sé in ann.
En: Cillian tried not to laugh, but he couldn't help it.

Ga: "Ní cheap mé go raibh tú chomh dána le cáis áitiúil a ithe, Sean!
En: "I didn't think you were as brave as to eat the local cheese, Sean!"

Ga: " a dúirt Cillian agus é ag síneadh buidéal uisce chuige.
En: said Cillian, handing him a bottle of water.

Ga: Ghlac Sean an t-uisce agus d'ól sé go hanbháin.
En: Sean took the water and drank it eagerly.

Ga: Mhothaigh sé faoiseamh láithreach agus ísligh an teas ina bhéal.
En: He immediately felt relief and cooled the heat in his mouth.

Ga: Shuigh siad ar feadh tamaill eile, ag caint agus ag magadh faoin eachtra, agus ansin thosaigh siad ar a mbealach ar ais, agus iad níos dlúithe mar chairde ná riamh.
En: They sat for a while longer, talking and joking about the incident, and then they started on their way back, closer friends than ever.

Ga: Cé go raibh an eachtra leis an gceapaire spíosrach greannmhar dóibh, fuair Sean ceacht tábhachtach an lá sin: léigh an lipéad i gcónaí sula n-itheann tú ceapaire duine eile!
En: Although the incident with the spicy, funny sandwich, Sean learned an important lesson that day: always read the label before eating someone else's sandwich!

Ga: Agus thar aon rud eile, d'fhoghlaim sé gur féidir fiú an t-eispéireas is géire ceangal a neartú idir cairde.
En: And above all else, he learned that even the most intense experience can strengthen the bonds between friends.
