Éxodo 20: El primer mandamiento con promesa de prosperidad.

Éxodo 20:1-20 RVR1960:
1 Y habló Dios todas estas palabras, diciendo: 2 Yo soy Jehová tu Dios, que te saqué de la tierra de Egipto, de casa de servidumbre.
3 No tendrás dioses ajenos delante de mí.
4 No te harás imagen, ni ninguna semejanza de lo que esté arriba en el cielo, ni abajo en la tierra, ni en las aguas debajo de la tierra. 5 No te inclinarás a ellas, ni las honrarás; porque yo soy Jehová tu Dios, fuerte, celoso, que visito la maldad de los padres sobre los hijos hasta la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me aborrecen, 6 y hago misericordia a millares, a los que me aman y guardan mis mandamientos.
7 No tomarás el nombre de Jehová tu Dios en vano; porque no dará por inocente Jehová al que tomare su nombre en vano.
8 Acuérdate del día de reposo para santificarlo. 9 Seis días trabajarás, y harás toda tu obra; 10 mas el séptimo día es reposo para Jehová tu Dios; no hagas en él obra alguna, tú, ni tu hijo, ni tu hija, ni tu siervo, ni tu criada, ni tu bestia, ni tu extranjero que está dentro de tus puertas. 11 Porque en seis días hizo Jehová los cielos y la tierra, el mar, y todas las cosas que en ellos hay, y reposó en el séptimo día; por tanto, Jehová bendijo el día de reposo y lo santificó.
12 Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, para que tus días se alarguen en la tierra que Jehová tu Dios te da.
13 No matarás.
14 No cometerás adulterio.
15 No hurtarás.
16 No hablarás contra tu prójimo falso testimonio.
17 No codiciarás la casa de tu prójimo, no codiciarás la mujer de tu prójimo, ni su siervo, ni su criada, ni su buey, ni su asno, ni cosa alguna de tu prójimo.
18 Todo el pueblo observaba el estruendo y los relámpagos, y el sonido de la bocina, y el monte que humeaba; y viéndolo el pueblo, temblaron, y se pusieron de lejos. 19 Y dijeron a Moisés: Habla tú con nosotros, y nosotros oiremos; pero no hable Dios con nosotros, para que no muramos. 20 Y Moisés respondió al pueblo: No temáis; porque para probaros vino Dios, y para que su temor esté delante de vosotros, para que no pequéis.

Este es uno de los capítulos más importantes y reconocidos de este libro. La razón es porque aquí están escritos los 10 mandamientos. También en Deuteronomio están escritos.
Para tener un amplio entendimiento de los mandamientos podemos dividirlos en 2 partes:
Primera parte, mandamientos acerca de mi relación con Dios del 1 al 4:
I) No tendrás dioses ajenos delante de mí.
II) No te harás imágenes.
III) No tomarás el Nombre del Señor en vano.
IV) Santificarás el día de reposo.

Segunda parte, mandamientos de mi relación con mi prójimo del 5 al 10.
V) Honrarás a tu padre y a tu madre.
VI) No matarás.
VII) No cometerás adulterio (actos impuros).
VIII) No robarás.
IX) No darás falso testimonio (no mentirás).
X) No codiciarás.

Como este es un devocional para las familias, quiero enfatizar en el quinto mandamiento: Honra a tu padre y tu madre. Este mandamiento es especial porque, de la lista, es el primero que se ofrece una recompensa. Dios nos dio una promesa para aquel que lo ponga en práctica: ¡Si honramos a nuestros padres se nos concederá larga vida, éxitos y prosperidad! Esto lo explica el apóstol Pablo en Efesios 6:1-3: “Hijos, obedezcan al Señor a sus padres, porque esto es justo. Honra a tu padre y a tu madre (que es el primer mandamiento con promesa), para que te vaya bien y vivas largo tiempo sobre la tierra.” (RVA2015).

No importa si tus padres no son perfectos, o se han equivocado en la forma en que criaron sus hijos, o si son o no creyentes, ¡honrelos! ¡Tomen esta promesa de bendición!
Si no has estado experimentando bendición en tu vida, evalúa si estás poniendo en práctica este mandamiento. Perdónalos en tu corazón, intenta resolver algún sentimiento de resentimiento en contra de ellos, diles que tú los quieres bendecir porque Dios te indica hacerlo y, además, porque tú quieres recibir la bendición en tu vida.
Siempre honra a tus padres para que tus hijos también te honren cuando ellos crezcan.
Tengamos cuidado en repetir los mismos errores que cometieron nuestros padres. Si guardamos resentimiento en el corazón; posiblemente, vamos a comportarnos como ellos inconscientemente y vamos a repetir la historia con nuestros hijos.
Deja que el Señor sane alguna herida del pasado, o algún dolor que todavia sientes por alguna mala experiencia del pasado, y cuando sueltes eso, Dios te iluminará para que no hagas lo mismo con tu familia y así puedas disfrutar de las promesas de Dios, comenzando un nuevo amanecer en la relación con tus hijos.

Exodus 20: The first commandment with promise of prosperity.

Exodus 20:1-20 NKJV:
And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
“You shall have no other gods before Me.
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
“You shall not murder.
“You shall not commit adultery.
“You shall not steal.
“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.”
And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”

This is one of the most important and recognized chapters of this book. The reason is because the 10 commandments are written here. Also in Deuteronomy they are written.
To have a broad understanding of the commandments we can divide them into 2 parts:
First part, commandments about my relationship with God from 1 to 4:
I) You shall have no other gods before Me.
II) You will not make images.
III) You shall not take the Name of the Lord in vain.
IV) You will sanctify the day of rest.

Second part, commandments of my relationship with my neighbor from 5 to 10.
V) You will honor your father and your mother.
VI) You shall not kill.
VII) You shall not commit adultery (impure acts).
VIII) You shall not steal.
IX) You will not give false testimony (you will not lie).
X) You shall not covet.

Since this is devotional for the family, I want to emphasize the fifth commandment: Honor your father and your mother. This commandment is special because, on the list, it is the first to offer a reward. God gave us a promise for those who put it into practice: If we honor our parents, we will be granted long life, success and prosperity! This is explained by the apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:1-3: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”

It does not matter if your parents are not perfect, or have been wrong in the way they raised their children, or whether or not they are believers, honor them! Take this promise of blessing!
If you have not been experiencing blessing in your life, consider whether you are putting this commandment into practice. Forgive them in your heart, try to resolve any feelings of resentment against them, tell them that you want to bless them because God tells you to do so and, furthermore, because you want to receive the blessing in your life.
Always honor your parents so that your children will also honor you when they grow up.
Let us be careful not to repeat the same mistakes our parents made. If we keep resentment in our hearts; possibly, we are going to behave like them unconsciously and we are going to repeat the story with our children.
Let the Lord heal some wound from the past, or some pain that you still feel from some bad experience from the past, and when you let go of that, God will enlighten you so that you do not do the same with your family and thus you can enjoy the promises of God, starting a new dawn in the relationship with your children.
