Have you heard of ayurveda? It is literally called “the Science of Life” and is the sister science of yoga.
Ayurveda is about experiencing your body along with your mind, senses, and soul. Having a daily routine helps with that and Amy talks about the value she has experienced from following the 10 daily habits of yoga and ayurveda.
In ayurveda, there is a focus both on the individual and the universal. Knowing your own make-up (constitution) helps you know how to approach the changing of the seasons, whether that’s the weather or the seasons of life.
This quote from my podcast guest, ayurveda health coach Amy Heilman, really struck me:
“Most people don’t know how to have a body”.
One of my mantras for 2022 is “I listen to my body.” But how much of my life have I lived ignoring my body? How many times have I dismissed a gut feeling or a hunger cue or even my menstrual cycle?
Ayurveda is a holistic approach to health that is about the coordination of our body, mind, senses, and soul. It focuses on the different elements (air, fire, water, earth, & ether) and on balance of the elements.
We are made up of the elements. In ayurveda, these elements are fire, water, air, earth, and ether. We have physical bodies (earth) that hold water. We have an inner personality that for you might be more fire-like or more air-like in quality. We have a soul, the essence of who we are (ether). And these elements are all around us as well.
