The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games are underway and Team Canada has 215 athletes competing in 14 sports. This is Canada’s third largest Winter Olympic Team ever, just behind the 225 athletes named for Pyeong Chang 2018.
In this weeks episode I reached out to two people from our province who know what is going through our athletes heads as they compete on the world stage. Not only have they attended the Olympics as athletes but they have brought home hardware!
Our first guest we get to hear from Kaetlyn Osmond who is originally from Marystown Newfoundland. She was Canada's first ladies' World Champion in 45 years when she won in 2018 and received the Order of Newfoundland.
At the 2014 Sochi Olympics she brought home a silver medal for the team event in figure skating and then in the 2018 PyeongChang, Winter Olympics, South Korea she brought home a gold (team event) and bronze from the singles event. If you tune into the Olympic figure skating this week you’ll hear her commentating the competition. She joined me from her home in Edmonton to talk all about her Olympic experience.
Next we chatted with Jamie Korab who was born in Harbor Grace and was the lead for the gold medal-winning Canadian men's team at the 2006 Winter Olympics On team gushue. Jamie is now a City Counsellor here in St. John’s and we've been friends since the world juniors. He shares his Torino experience and what it felt like to bring home the gold.
