After losing his father at age 12, Knowles Shaw worked hard to help support his family in rural Indiana, including playing the violin his father gave him at community events and dance parties for extra money. Some years after his father's death, he thought of what his father had told him before he died: "Be good to your mother, and prepare to meet your God." He'd been good to his mother, but he was not prepared to meet his God. Right in the middle of the rowdy dance party he was providing music for, he laid down his violin, prayed for forgiveness, and received Christ as his Savior.

That young man became a prolific singing evangelist, bringing in a reported 11,000 souls for the kingdom of God before his death in a train accident at age 43. Join me as we learn more about Knowles Shaw, his life, and this well-known, well-loved hymn he wrote that expresses his life work so well.
