So for the last year of restaurant ownership, I’ve been carrying an extra 10 pounds (give or take) for the majority of the year. My husband loves the extra “love”, but unfortunately, it has to go. Last year, I experienced a loss in a friendship. A devastating unexpected loss in a friendship that tore me to my core. Can I be real here? I was crushed. I tried. I prayed. I cried out to God. But the outcome was a lot different than my prayers. And I was devastated. I went into a bit of a depression and funk and carried the weight for most of last year.
Because of that experience, I carried a lot of weight. The weight of fear of rejection. The weight of abandonment. The weight of sadness. The weight of unforgiveness. Yes, I’m holy and love Jesus, but sometimes forgiveness doesn’t come easy to me. We all have extra “weight” that we carry.
Some of us carry the weight of shame. Some of us carry the weight of broken friendships. Some of us carry the weight of depression. Some of us carry the weight of our past or past mistakes. Some of us carry the weight of feeling not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough. And as we go through this study, I believe God wants us to shed the weight. The weight of unforgiveness. The weight of bitterness. The weight of not feeling worthy. Pretty. Because as God is trying to take us to new levels of intimacy in Him and discovering and highlighting our identities in Jesus, our eyes have to be focused on Him and not our WEIGHT! Figuratively and literally.
