Rev. Evan Koop, S.T.L., a Roman Catholic priest from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a faculty member of the St. Paul Seminary and School of Divinity is Dr. Mary Anne Urlakis’ guest on Episode 14 of WCAT Radio’s “Vows, Vocations, and Promises: Discerning the Call of Love.” Fr. Koop is a member of the priestly fraternity, The Companions of Christ, a community of diocesan priests and he has also served as a spiritual director at St. John Vianney College Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Fr. Koop is a doctoral candidate, pursuing his studies through the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, writing on the Mariology of Matthias Joseph Scheeben. In this episode, Dr. Mary Anne Urlakis interviews Fr. Koop regarding his doctoral work and his chapter, entitled: “Mary as the Bridal Companion of the Priest,” which was recently published in the new text: Spiritual Husbands- Spiritual Fathers: Priestly Formation for the 21st Century, edited by Bishop Felipe Estevez and Bishop Andrew Cozzens, published by Holy Apostles College and Seminary’s Enroute Books and Media https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/spiritualhusbands/. In this interview, Fr. Koop traces the ancient roots of the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Bridal Companion of Christ and elucidates the significance of this relationship to the priest’s identity as chaste bridegroom and spiritual father.
