DEVOTION
Based on Psalm 49
The Bible reminds us that riches on earth are temporary, but the riches we store in heaven are eternal (see Matthew 6:19-21). But what does this mean? As you prepare for your quiet time with God, look around at all the possessions you hold dear.
Now try to imagine how these pale in comparison to the eternal treasures waiting for you in heaven, where you will be face-to-face with God. Tonight, put your hope and trust in the things of God rather than in the things of this world.
A.C.T.S. REFLECTION
ADORATION:
In our world, many wealthy people are praised and exalted because of their personal accomplishments and worldly success. But the Bible warns us not to value worldly treasures. The psalmist beautifully reminds us that we will all face death and decay, but those who put their trust in the Lord will be redeemed and restored for eternity. What a gift! As you put your hope and trust in the Lord, exalt Him for the bright future you have with Him.
CONFESSION:
Think of a time when you put too much value on material possessions and worldly wealth. Confess any times when you served money over God. Ask for His forgiveness and ask for His help in guarding your heart and mind from the temptations of this world.
THANKSGIVING:
Praise the Lord for the way God has provided for you. Take a moment to thank Him for the material ways He has blessed you while remembering that your possessions are secondary to the contentment and joy you can find in Him.
SUPPLICATION:
Lord, help me to keep money and material possessions secondary to You. Please deliver me from the temptation to focus on and serve my possessions rather than You. Help me to be content and generous with what You provide and to focus on building heavenly treasures rather than earthly wealth. Thank You for Your promise of an eternal home with You! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
PRAYER
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.”
PSALM 32:8
Mighty God, You have blessed me with the ultimate gift of forgiveness. No prize, profit, or person could ever replace You and Your matchless grace. The blood of the Lamb has covered my sins, and I walk victoriously in this life because You have redeemed me. I want to continually live a conquering life by keeping Your commandments. Tonight, as the darkness of the night drapes over the land, I want to ponder the darkness in my own heart. I want to be wholeheartedly convicted of my sin, convinced of Your love, and comforted by Your forgiveness. Do mighty work in me before I sleep. Relieve me of anxiety. Counsel me and teach me Your ways so I can live in victory. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
