In this episode of Becoming with Angelina Watkins she discusses types of friends and what she had to realize about the type of friends she was to others
There are all types of friends, all the way from friends who cannot be trusted to friends who are ride or die. Who you hang around is important to your success in life. It is important to check your circle because your success is a reflection of who you socialize with. Are your friends supportive and encouraging or are they needy and draining? You need a positive circle of friends if you want to be successful.
Angelina talks about the forever friend. The friend who, no matter what, is down for you and your dreams. They genuinely want to see you succeed. They are going to be around and have your back whether they talk to you everyday or every few months. They understand your grind and the empire you are trying to build and allow you to focus on your dreams.
As she reflects on the type of friends, she realizes it is as equally important to self-reflect and decide what type of friend she is to others. In her reflection, and with feedback from her sister, she realized she was good for cutting people off in an attempt to not be vulnerable. If conflict arouse and she felt like someone had done her wrong, she would cut the friendship or relationship off. She wanted to avoid conflict resolution because it required her to be vulnerable and she didn’t want to be vulnerable.
In Angelina’s story, lack of vulnerability stemmed from building an emotional wall to protect her heart because she had already faced or was facing heartbreak in different forms. So she found the need to put up a wall to protect her heart.
