Sharing a conversation with my director Adam Sklute a few months back was a joyous moment. Creating a space where a dancer and director can meet and converse on the same level is a moment we rarely experience or see within a dancers career and I have endless gratitude to be sharing it with you. I believe it is a moment we can find more courage in having as we progress within our industry. Adam and I dive into his family history of being raised in Berkley, California attending the symphony and the ballet since he can remember whilst seeing some of the greats. At seventeen he chose to become a ballet dancer against his families wishes, moved to New York and found his way into the Joffrey Ballet being one of the last dancers to personally be hired by Mr. Joffrey. Adam hopes to always remain a student in his personal and professional life and it is a vital moment for each of us to experience on our journeys. This episode has lots to offer when it comes to a dancers perspective and how be aware of trends that in the end are not beneficial to a successful career. Adam speaks on what he looks for in a dancer in his company as he tries to create a space of diversity, continuously assessing his steps along the way.
