This was a big first for me, and I don't think there was anyone better to do it with! The Laid Off LP by Hodder (not this Hodder but another Hodder) is the very first hip-hop/rap album or EP I've ever showcased on the show, and I think it was the perfect one to break the ice with. Aside from the fact that obviously Hodder and I share the same name, I really enjoyed this record! Hodder can effortlessly blend modern hiphop/R&B styles that you could hear on the radio with rap and songwriting slow that is unique and doesn't sound like anyone I've heard. With obvious influences from heavier hitters, he still keeps true to himself and the east coast hip hop style that to me sounds like nothing else all while features some great artists from the East Coat Lil Freaza, Ryley Urban, Twstr, and Blossom Complex. The Laid-off LP has fun songs about what's going on in the world right now, relationships, and other relatable topics while still having some serious personal lyrics from Hodder in which he isn't afraid to bare his soul. I'm a fan, and it's gone far beyond a silly joke about how we're probably related.
