Fat is the third and most calorie-rich macronutrient our bodies require daily. Dietary fat provides the body with essential fatty acids (EFAs), structural compounds the body cannot make itself and can only obtain through food. Monounsaturated fats are found in plant foods, such as nuts, avocados, and vegetable oils. Eating moderate amounts of Omega 3-6-9, mono- and poly-unsaturated (and even some saturated!!) fats can benefit your health, but you MUST avoid trans and hydrogenated fats. Unlike protein and carbs, fats are not broken down by the body and rebuilt for use. What we eat, the body will use or store directly, so choose wisely. Expert trainer Ramin Rasavar shares tips, clever analogies, and easy steps anyone can incorporate.
