The investigators were perplexed by the discovery of Leslie Neulander's body. Dr. Robert Neulander, a well-known OBGYN in Dewitt, New York, claimed that his wealthy philanthropist wife had a fatal slip-and-fall accident in the shower due to her vertigo.
However, the severity of Leslie's head injury, with her skull cracked to the base and her brain exposed, along with strange wounds on her face and hand, raised suspicions. Despite the lack of a clear motive for the death of the "vibrant" 61-year-old mother and the unexplained amount of blood in the bedroom and bathroom, the district attorney sought help from Leslie's friend, Dr. Mary Jumbelic, a retired medical examiner, to unravel the mystery.
