Today on Scale or Fail, we are privileged to chat to Kalia Miller. Kalia first got started in bookkeeping when her sister who is a business owner was 2 years behind on her taxes. She helped her streamline her business retroactively with Quickbooks Online. Now she helps other business owners gain control of their businesses by doing the same thing.

What was it that you were doing in your full-time career before your bookkeeping business?
  • I was actually doing a full time sales job. And I've done sales for a lot of years. And I have been really successful at it.
So you were working a full time sales job. And what brought you to the point where you decided, okay, let's shift this?
  • Well, this leads into a lot of the topic of the conversation, which is something that I've identified within myself, I, I just take a lot of direction from my partner, my my husband, and we were I was doing the sales job.
  • And I knew I wanted to do something more on my own, because it was more scalable. And I could own my time better so that I actually he gave me the idea to do the bookkeeping business.
So when did you see like this need for maybe another half of your business or complementary?
  • I think that, you know, as we experience throughout life, we're always trying to figure out what our strengths are, and what's going to steer us and how we can be decisive enough to take action, and follow through with things.
When were you kind of first introduced to the idea of a visionary versus an integrator?
  • You know, I don't really remember it's been a while, um, I've been graduated from Utah State for over 10 years. And I remember it was around that time that I did first hear about it. But I just remember like, oh, yeah, I'm the orchestrator. I'm the idea maker. Because I have something really weird about me. It's I drive in silence.
What struggles have you faced personally trying to find the complementary half of visionary integrator throughout the businesses you've worked in?
  • I think, a challenge anyone would be up against trying to figure out how they fit in, because you could think you're one and not the other.
What advice do you have to young entrepreneurs for either finding their other half their visionary or their integrator or even finding themselves in which one that they prefer?
  • Sometimes you just need the time and the space to focus you need someone to partner up with. And especially if you're working a full time job, like you just don't have like the systems or the time and productivity and focus in place to lift and it off the ground.
