Jim is a dispute resolution lawyer based in Hong Kong. He concentrates on arbitration, aviation, banking, commodities, engineering and construction, corporate, commercial, energy, insurance, shipping, shipbuilding, mortgage enforcement and regulatory. He is admitted as a solicitor of England & Wales (1977) and Hong Kong (1983). He is a panel arbitrator of the Beijing Arbitration Commission, CIETAC and CMAC, a mediator and past chairman of the Hong Kong Insurance Law Association. He is a qualified adjudicator under the Hong Kong Government’s Security of Payments Legislation (which has yet to be brought into effect).

Jim has been based in Asia since 1983. Previously he was in London for six years. He has worked in Beijing (2005 - 2006), Shanghai (2006 - 2010), where he was the managing partner of his previous firm, and in Singapore (1999 - 2002). He spent one year on secondment to the shipbuilding division of Hyundai Heavy Industries, Ulsan, South Korea (1986 - 1987).
