show moreIs it possible that we have inadvertently - with our snarky, cynical view of the world - actually contributed to making the world of pop culture even worse? Maybe even somewhat toxic?
After reading about the much maligned “adult” Scooby Doo series, it dawned on me that we are a generation that watches adult cartoons, still watches Star Wars movies, and often times act like big, dumb children. Okay, maybe that’s a little harsh, but it seems that we have held on to the things from our childhoods a little tighter than generations before us.
Certainly the dialogue in movies targeted at our generation is defined by it's biting, sharp social commentary - yet there has always been this glimmer of cautious optimism. I’m not so sure that subsequent generations have inherited that last part - it has become all cynicism without the requisite spark of hope. To paraphrase Steve Urkel, “did we do that”?
