Deuteronomio 17: El mejor consejo para los grandes líderes.

Deuteronomio 17:14-20:
“Cuando hayas entrado en la tierra que el SEÑOR tu Dios te da y hayas tomado posesión de ella y la habites, y cuando digas: ‘Constituiré rey sobre mí, como todas las naciones que están en mis alrededores’, solamente constituirás sobre ti como rey a quien el SEÑOR tu Dios haya escogido. A uno de entre tus hermanos constituirás como rey sobre ti. No podrás constituir sobre ti a un hombre extranjero, alguien que no sea tu hermano.
“Pero él no ha de acumular caballos. No hará volver al pueblo a Egipto para acumular caballos, porque el SEÑOR les ha dicho: ‘Jamás volverán por ese camino’. Tampoco acumulará para sí mujeres, no sea que se desvíe su corazón. Tampoco acumulará para sí mucha plata y oro.
“Y sucederá que cuando se siente sobre el trono de su reino, él deberá escribir para sí en un pergamino una copia de esta ley, del rollo que está al cuidado de los sacerdotes levitas. La tendrá consigo y la leerá todos los días de su vida, para que aprenda a temer al SEÑOR su Dios, guardando todas las palabras de esta ley y estas prescripciones a fin de ponerlas por obra. Esto servirá para que no se enaltezca su corazón sobre sus hermanos, y no se aparte del mandamiento ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, a fin de que prolongue los días en su reino, él y sus hijos, en medio de Israel.

El Dios Todopoderoso, Adonai, el gran Yo Soy, era el Rey supremo de Israel. Él los guiaba y los protegía. Pero, al entrar a la tierra prometida, Dios sabía que ellos pedirían un rey como todas las naciones.
Cuando llegara este día, ellos ya tendrían una guía, unos reglamentos en la ley para poder elegir un rey conforme a la voluntad de Dios.

Estos consejos del Señor eran muy claros, describiendo las consecuencias si no los seguían. Por ejemplo, los problemas que el futuro rey tendría al amasar caballos de Egipto, pues no debían volver por la ruta de donde salieron, del lugar donde fueron esclavos, o tener muchas mujeres como era la costumbre en la época, pues Dios les advertía que ellas podrían desviar su mirada de Dios.
Un gran ejemplo de estos errores cometidos fue Salomón. Él hizo alianzas innecesarias con Egipto, codició sus caballos y también tuvo muchas mujeres, las cuales provenían de otras naciones y trajeron sus costumbres y dioses que pervirtieron a Salomón cuando estaba en edad avanzada.
Pero quiero recalcar el secreto para que ellos no se desviaran del camino. Cada rey debía recibir una copia fidedigna de la ley de Dios. Ellos debían leerla TODOS LOS DÍAS DE SU VIDA, para que aprendieran a honrar a Dios, guardando sus preceptos y mandamientos. Haciendo esto, el rey será más prudente, sabio y justo para gobernar sobre el pueblo escogido por Dios.
La Palabra de Dios y leerla todos los días era el antídoto en contra de esa actitud negativa que todo gobernante tiene que enfrentar y es la altivez. El poder produce más poder y la tendencia de abusar de él. El estar rodeado de pompa, honras y riquezas hace que el ser humano se crea superior que los demás, vulnerando sus derechos, irrespetando al prójimo y cometiendo faltas gravísimas delante de Dios.
Así mismo, nosotros debemos usar este consejo para combatir el orgullo y la altivez. Es muy fácil convertirse en un líder arrogante por la posición que tengamos, sea en el lugar de trabajo, por la profesión o títulos que alcancemos, y por los ministerios que Dios nos permite tener en la iglesia.
Si estás en una posición de eminencia, de liderazgo, donde tu nombre es respetado por tu posición, guarda tu corazón de pisotear al que está bajo tus directrices. Cuídate de usar tu influencia y tu autoridad para subir en un pedestal donde te sientas superior a los demás.

En Apocalipsis leemos que nosotros somos reyes y sacerdotes para Dios. Puedes escuchar la reflexión de este capítulo en nuestro devocional del 26 de agosto, cuando estudiamos este tema en Apocalipsis 1.
Seamos buenos reyes, dando un verdadero ejemplo de liderazgo, siendo justos en el trato con nuestros hijos, nuestros esposos o esposas, con nuestros compañeros de trabajo, o con nuestros hermanos que trabajan en las directivas o departamentos ministeriales en nuestra congregación.
Nunca olvides tu posición como miembro del reino de los cielos, especialmente en tu hogar. No menosprecies ni abuses de tu posición de liderazgo, y sé responsable con aquellos que convives mucho más que con otras personas.
Por eso, no confíes en tu propia opinión y no te dejes llevar por tu propia prudencia. Consulta todo al Señor y así evitarás actuar bajo los impulsos emocionales sino bajo los preceptos y criterios que el Señor Jesucristo nos dejó con su ejemplo, y también por medio de las cartas y epístolas de los apóstoles y maestros que encontramos en el Nuevo Testamento.

Deuteronomy 17:14-20:
“When you come to the land which the Lord your God is giving you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say, ‘I will set a king over me like all the nations that are around me,’ you shall surely set a king over you whom the Lord your God chooses; one from among your brethren you shall set as king over you; you may not set a foreigner over you, who is not your brother. But he shall not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt to multiply horses, for the Lord has said to you, ‘You shall not return that way again.’ Neither shall he multiply wives for himself, lest his heart turn away; nor shall he greatly multiply silver and gold for himself.
“Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel.

The Almighty God, Adonai, the great I Am, was the supreme King of Israel. He guided them and protected them. But, as they entered the promised land, God knew that they would ask for a king like all the nations.
When this day came, they would already have a guide, some regulations in the law so that they could elect a king according to the will of God.

These counsels from the Lord were very clear, describing the consequences if they were not followed. For example, the problems that the future king would have when amassing horses from Egypt, because they should not return by the route from which they came, from the place where they were slaves, or have many women as was the custom at the time because God warned them that they could turn their eyes away from God. A great example of these mistakes made was Solomon. He made unnecessary alliances with Egypt, coveted their horses, and also had many women who came from other nations and brought their customs and gods that perverted Solomon when he was old.
But I want to emphasize the secret so that they do not deviate from the path. Every king was to receive a true copy of God's law. They had to read it EVERY DAY OF THEIR LIFE, so that they would learn to honor God, keeping His precepts and commandments. By doing this, the king will be more prudent, wise and just to rule over God's chosen people.
The Word of God and reading it every day was the antidote against that negative attitude that every ruler has to face and that is haughtiness. Power breeds more power and the tendency to abuse it. Being surrounded by pomp, honor and riches makes the human being believe superior to others, violating their rights, disrespecting others and committing serious offenses before God.
Likewise, we must use this advice to combat pride and haughtiness. It is very easy to become an arrogant leader because of the position we have, be it in the workplace, because of the profession or titles that we achieve, and because of the ministries that God allows us to have in the church.
If you are in a position of eminence, of leadership, where your name is respected because of your position, keep your heart from trampling on the one under your guidance. Beware of using your influence and your authority to climb on a pedestal where you feel superior to others.

In Revelation we read that we are kings and priests to God. You can listen to the reflection of this chapter in our devotional on August 26, when we studied this topic in Revelation 1.
Let us be good kings, giving a true example of leadership, being fair in dealing with our children, our husbands or wives, with our co-workers, or with our brothers and sisters who work in the directives or ministerial departments in our congregation.
Never forget your position as a member of the kingdom of heaven, especially in your home. Do not underestimate or abuse your leadership position, and be responsible with those you live with much more than with other people.
Therefore, do not trust your own opinion and do not let yourself be carried away by your own prudence. Consult the Lord for everything and thus you will avoid acting under emotional impulses but under the precepts and criteria that the Lord Jesus Christ left us with His example, and also through the letters and epistles of the apostles and teachers that we find in the New Testament.
