Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has been at the center of some of the biggest events of this historic year across the United States and in Michigan: the pandemic, voting rights challenges, the Flint water crisis, passing safe gun legislation, immigration and hate crime matters, and the prosecution of sex offenders, including the gymnastics staff at Michigan State.

Nessel, only the second woman to serve as Michigan Attorney General (the first was now federal Energy Secretary, Jennifer Granholm), who was elected in 2018−she is one of “those women from Michigan”−is a former civil rights attorney and Wayne County (Detroit) assistant prosecutor. “She is also the first openly gay person and first openly LGBTQ person elected to statewide office in Michigan.”

Join us for this very special #VoteHerIn videocast for #WomensHistoryMonth for a visit and discussion with Attorney General Nessel about what serving in executive governmental office is like (not many women do, or have); her biggest policy and legal challenges, and how she addresses them; her takeaways from this last and unique year; what she plans to focus on in 2021; and her advice for young women lawyers who want to follow in her footsteps.
