Legendary singer-songwriter Richie Furay has announced his new solo album, Hand In Hand, will be released on March 31, 2015 on Entertainment One Music (eOne Music). Best known for forming the bands Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Bruce Palmer, and Dewey Martin, and Poco with Jim Messina, Rusty Young, George Grantham, and Randy Meisner, the album marks his first solo release in 8 years. Furay, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 for his work with Buffalo Springfield, was recently inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame for his work with Poco.
The cover of Hand in Hand features the wedding photo of Richie and his wife of 48 years, Nancy. The two met at the Whisky-A-Go-Go in West Hollywood, where Nancy caught his eye and became the inspiration behind Buffalo Springfield’s, “Kind Woman.” The title track of the new record, “Hand In Hand,” serves as a follow-up song to the Buffalo Springfield hit, which is also featured as a bonus track.
“Just when you think ‘it was a nice run,’ you realize it’s not over…especially when one day you wake up and songs are flooding your heart and mind that you know you just have to document and preserve,” says Furay. “’Hand In Hand’ was that confirmation for me – I’ve learned to say ‘never say never.’ Who knows where this collection will land, but I’m sure glad I get to share these songs with a world that knows music really is the universal language.”
In support of the release, Furay will kick off a US tour on February 25th at The GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles and end on March 22 at Daryl’s House in Pawling, NY. Highlights of the tour include shows at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA, SOPAC in South Orange, NJ, Ram’s Head in Annapolis, MD, and City Winery in New York City.
David Spero, Furay’s manager, stated, “When the Buffalo Springfield Reunion Tour ended after just nine dates, Richie already had started writing for a possible new Springfield album. When he played me these songs, I thought it only made sense to get them recorded. I knew they were the best group of songs he had ever put together.”
“We are thrilled to have an artist of Richie’s stature join the eOne Music family,” said Chuck Oliner, eOne’s Director of Marketing & Promotion of Jazz & Adult Alternative Music. “Richie’s place in Americana Music is without peer, beginning with the teaming of Stephen Stills and Neil Young to form Buffalo Springfield. From there, Richie - along with Jim Messina and Rusty Young - formed the seminal Alt Country band Poco, as well as Souther, Hillman, Furay. Richie’s new album ‘Hand In Hand’ will again connect him with his Americana roots, and we are all excited to be a part of Richie’s continuing success.”
