In this episode we continue studying the Book of Genesis. In this episode we find Nimrod the son of Cush, the son of Ham leading the earth's inhabitants on a quest to build a tower that reached into the heavens to make a name for themselves.

We note, they all wanted to make a name for themselves but Shem was supposed to be called by the name of God not by some other name, especially not after the name of a man whose name means rebellion or revolt.

It sounds like God may have been impressed by their ingenuity and unity but he knew the end result, he knew what would happen when a group of people whose imaginations are evil continually, come together in agreement to do something. They could do anything they wanted to do, unfortunately it wouldn’t be good. Even if it started off good it would turn into evil for within all of them there was good and evil and they would bear fruits of both.

God confused the languages of those building the tower and construction stopped immediately. The builders took their families, and went throughout the earth to establish their own nations, cultures and customs.

We also note that the biblical definition of tower means, an elevated stage, anything large in size or stature, to make large in body, mind, estate, honor, to wax great, to do great things, to become great, or important, to become powerful, a pulpit.

We noted that some pastors have sought to make a name for themselves by turning their pulpits into towers that reach into heaven.

They appear to grant people access to heaven even though they are living in sin. Jesus spoke against tower building preachers who teach their own doctrines instead of the commandments of God, in Mark chapter 7 verses 7 through 13.

We noted that tower building preachers exchange heavenly glory for earthly glory. The BDB says, glory means, abundance, riches, splendor, dignity, honor, reputation and reverence.

The apostles of old were not rich by the worlds standards but they could heal the sick and cast out devils with handkerchiefs and aprons or simply pass by someone and their shadow fell on them.

Heavenly riches are more valuable than Gucci and Fendi in Gods book. The heavens are like brass to those preferring earthly riches to heavenly riches.
