Blood Libel against the Jews

"The claim that the State of Israel is deliberately killing innocent people in Gaza is worse than merely a damn lie which it is. This vicious charge crosses into the territory of the type of blood libel that was lodged against Jews in Medieval times by Christians and Muslims who claimed that Jews were kidnapping and murdering their babies in order to use their blood to bake bread" says radio talk show host and author Chuck Morse.

While I certainly don't agree, I nevertheless understand that Hamas and to a degree the Palestinians and their Muslim supporters have resorted to this type of atrocity propaganda. They use words like slaughter, pogrom and Holocaust to describe the Israeli defense against the unprovoked aggression emanating out of Gaza.

What I don't understand is why so-called progressives, people who seemingly have no skin in the game, have echoed the blood libel against the Jews. I noticed at a pro-Hamas rally I attended in Boston that the Arabs were relatively peaceful and respectful while white American leftists were shrieking as their faces contorted in expressions of hate. Is the blood libel against the Jews someones idea of social justice?

I've listened to fellow talk hosts, otherwise respectable progressives like Thom Hartmann refer to the barrage of missiles fired at Tel Aviv as "fire-crackers" and Gaza as a "prison camp." The not so responsible progressive San Francisco politician Norman Solomon, as a guest on my show, made reference to Israel having murdered over 50 babies.

It should be noted that Israel evacuated Gaza in 2005 giving the Palestinians the opportunity to turn the beach-front strip into a peaceful and prosperous sovereign state. Israel stripped Gaza of Jews leaving it ethnically cleansed. Money was pouring in from many quarters and the Palestinians could have created a Hong Kong. Had they been a responsible member of the world community of nations, Israel would have given them more. Instead, they turned Gaza into a launching pad for an aggressive war against Israel with thousands of genocidal missiles fired and with terrorists crawling out of tunnels with sub-machine guns.

Israel is reluctant to enter Gaza because the Israelis seek to minimize the loss of innocent life. Israeli soldiers are putting their lives on the line in this effort. Hamas, on the other hand, is responsible for the deaths of the innocent as their misfire missiles that kill their fellow Arabs as opposed to their intended target, the Jews, and as they place their missiles behind the innocent in violation of international law and conventions of morality.
