show moreNotes: These beers differ significantly from Scotch Ale, especially regarding original gravity, alcohol content and malt attributes. While there are conflicting theories as to whether traditional Scottish Light Ale exhibited peat smoke character, the current marketplace offers many examples with peat smoke character present at low to medium-low levels. Peat smoke attributes may be absent or present at low to medium-low levels. Versions exhibiting higher levels of smoke character are categorized as Smoke Beer.

Examples from GABF Winners List 2019
Gold Medal: Taildragger Clan-Destine - Saddle Mountain Brewing Co – Goodyear AZ
ABV – 6.8 %
Notes: This flavorful sweet ale has a smooth malt finish balanced against a light hop flavor. This beer is very quaffable and has become a pub favorite. 2018 WORLD BEER CUP SILVER MEDAL AND 2017 & 2018 GREAT AMERICAN BEER FESTIVAL GOLD MEDAL WINNER!
Silver Medal: Yarmouth - Arkane Aleworks – Largo FL
ABV – 6.8 %
Notes: Originally designed by Dan for an old world beer style brewed in the English village of Yarmouth. With a little help from a 7-11 donut, the Yarmouth was born and the closest beer category today is a Scottish ale (which would surely make the original British brewers roll over in their graves). Enjoy this caramel forward full bodied beer a few pints at a time as it generally lower abv than a traditional scotch ale. 2017 Best Florida Beer Championship silver medal winner!
