show moreThis podcast was recorded in the Alabama Black Belt when some local and Birmingham bluesmen gathered, in the middle of the woods, to play for local people. We are closed to Union, a town of about 200 people, 40 miles away from Old Memphis, where Alabama legend Willie King used to live. And most of the artists performing played with Willie King. One of them is Clarence Bluesman Davis, a singer and guitar player, who used to play with Willie King at his favorite juke joint: Bettie’s Place. Another artist is Jock Webb, Willie King’s harmonica. Ernest Martin, on bass guitar, also played with King. At the drums we have Marcus Lee from Birmingham and the second guitar is Lee Brown, a Birmingham native who lives in Atlanta.
The Magic City Blues Society is an all-volunteer organization, based in Birmingham, Alabama (we are an affiliated member of The Blues Foundation). Our mission is to celebrate, preserve and promote the Blues as an original American art form and we have been doing this since 1993! Check our website (https://www.magiccityblues.org/) to see what is going on in Birmingham, or like us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/MagicCityBluesSociety) 😊
Francesca Mereu, an Italian writer, a blues lover, and Birmingham resident, is the host of our podcasts (francescamereu.com)
