Join Matt Andruscavage and former 49ers running back Dexter Carter as they break down the victory of the New Orleans Saints on the 49ers Weekly Show. This was the best of the 2019 NFL season up to this point.
The 49ers' 48-46 victory over the Saints propelled the 49ers back to the top of the NFC West and NFC (since Seattle also lost) which gives them the inside track to obtaining home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
This was a back and forth game on the offensive side of the ball and also had some defensive stops. The Saints scored on their first four possessions and led by 13 points twice in the first half. The 49ers were unphased and answered back each time and even led 28-27 at the half. San Francisco came up with a turnover in the third quarter, enabling them to get a score and lead by 9 most of the way.
New Orleans did take the lead 46-45 with 53 seconds left, but Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle got the 49ers deep into New Orleans territory to set up a game-winning field goal by Robbie Gould to hang on for a 48-46 win.
The 49ers got through this difficult stretch, but did have some injuries. As of December 12th, Richard Sherman and Jaquiski Tartt will be unavailable against the Falcons on Sunday, though they are improving. Both could be back next week.
D.J. Jones, Weston Richburg and Garrett Celek went on Injured Reserve and Kentavius Street will rejoin the team and get into the defensive line rotation. Dee Ford will be out until the playoffs with a hamstring injury. Ben Garland will be the starting center.
Though there are injuries, the 49ers should be able to beat Atlanta and improve to 12-2. Listen here for the recap and Falcons preview with Dexter and Matt.
