In Episode 17 of WCAT Radio’s “Vows, Vocations, & Promises: Discerning the Call of Love,” Fr. John Horn, S.J., and Mrs. Jane Guenther, M.Div., share their expertise in priestly formation with show-host Dr. Mary Anne Urlakis. In this episode, Fr. Horn and Mrs. Guenther delve into their chapter entitled, “Christian Masculine Affective Maturity in the Way of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola,” which was recently published in the book entitled Spiritual Husbands- Spiritual Fathers: Priestly Formation for the 21st Century, edited by Bishop Felipe Estevez and Bishop Andrew Cozzens, published by Holy Apostles College and Seminary’s Enroute Books and Media.

Fr. John Horn, S.J., is a priest of the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus who was ordained in 1985. Fr. Horn’s 25-year+ experience in priestly formation encompasses many roles including: Co-Founder of The Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton University, Co-Founder of the Seminary Formation Council, former President and Rector of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, as well as his current role as a spiritual director and Professor in Spiritual Theology at St. Vincent de Paul Seminary. Mrs. Jane Guenther earned her Master’s in Divinity from Aquinas Institute of Theology and is the current Director of the Renewal Center for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. She has worked extensively in seminary formation and has authored work on spiritual warfare and deliverance. Mrs. Guenther also serves as a Practicum Mentor, Presenter, and Spiritual Director in the Spiritual Formation Council’s Certificate in Seminary Formation for Missionary Discipleship.

In Episode 17, Fr. Horn and Jane Guenther elucidate the ways in which Christian men grow in affective maturity as they grasp their core identity as sons of the Father, brothers of the Son, and temples of the Holy Spirit. Fr. John and Mrs. Guenther explore both theoretical and practical applications of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola to the area of priestly formation and male affective maturity, providing highlights from their work, published in Chapter 17 of Spiritual Husbands- Spiritual Fathers: Priestly Formation for the 21st Century, which can be found on the Holy Apostle’s College and Seminary’s Enroute Books website at: https://enroutebooksandmedia.com/spiritualhusbands/ , as well as on Amazon.com.
