Jacob finds his brother Laban in Charan through Rachel. He is welcomed and asked what his wages will be for his work. Jacob offers to serve Laban seven years for his daughter Rachel. Laban deceives him and first gives him Lea and demands seven additional years for Rachel. Lea begins bearing Jacob children and hopes that her fruitfulness will cause him to love her.
