The last regular meeting of the Bryan school board included an update on what's going on at the state level.

Bryan ISD board member David Stasny is also a member of the Texas Association of School Board's legislative affairs committee.

Before Christmas, he attended a TASB meeting in Austin that featured among other speakers, Texas education commissioner Mike Morath.

One subject was two options to lengthen the school year. One option was giving more time to assist students, and another was adding the number of days but keeping the number of teaching minutes.

Stasny also said Morath gave an update on the implementation of House Bill three that was passed by the legislature last year.
