We are extremely excited to have the talented touring singer/songwriter/story teller/recording artist, book author and competitive sailor/surfer Marc Borde joining us LIVE and in studio for a very special edition of the Galactic Coast Power Hour to kick off the new year. "The Ocean is my Playground. Music is my Passion,” according to the Trinidad & Tobago-born Borde’ whose interest in sailing was sparked after a two-week Caribbean island-hopping adventure at age 13. He quickly picked up as much sailing knowledge and experience as possible and before long was winning regattas, took first place in his Texas youth racing circuit, and was competing nationally on various single-handed racing dinghies. But his plans of one day sailing in the Olympics shifted toward a career in music as he reached young-adulthood. Most recently, Borde toured the country many times over as the front man and namesake of his Reggae/Folk group “That Captain” creating fun, original, dance music with a signature style that “blends reggae, bluegrass and jammy flavors.” Borde has been writing and performing music for years with super popular bands such as “Shark Attack” and “Cassette Tape.” In 2011, he formed a three-person all-star band appropriately named “The Crew” which recorded an album on a 26-foot sailboat before touring 300-miles off the Texas coast on that same boat playing 33 shows in 38 days. Borde authored a special-edition book (CD included) about this one-of-a-kind tour by only boat and bicycles named “Guitar Strings & Sailboat Things” which sold out three press runs. There is a rumor a collector's edition coffee table book version is in the works. Most recently, Borde has been based along the Northern California coast in Humboldt Bay where he has been completing construction of a 55-year-old, 50-foot trimaran that until last year had never touched water for an even more ambitious music tour of the entire planet Earth by boat. Plans for another book and to have this tour televised worldwide are already in motion. Borde is full of experiences from one day hearing his song prominently in a Hollywood movie without his knowledge, to completing a musical tour by sailboat, to being given a basically abandoned unfinished 50-foot trimaran from a French singer following a chance encounter and getting it seaworthy. There is enough content to cover for at least six episodes of the Galactic Coast Power Hour. Plus, rumor is Borde will be bringing his guitar to perform a few songs. And if time allows, which it likely will not, we plan to tease some of what is on tap this weekend in beer, music and events thanks to our friends at The SCENE Magazine including the Vanilla Sugar Album release party with Brainchild, Downfall 2012 and Anora down the street form the studio tomorrow (1/3/2020) evening at Scout Bar and the Texas Flood show Saturday (2/4/2020) at Jackie’s Brickhouse among others. Thirsty yet? Then grab a drink and tune in to the Galactic Coast Power Hour at 7pm!! The show is available live on VinylDraught Radio at www.vinyldraughtlive.com and on the iHeartRadio app, Spotify, the TuneIn app, the Player FM app and the Live 365 app among other apps and networks. Episodes are also available after the fact on iTunes, Google Play and SoundCloud. Cheers from your hosts the Discovery Channel’s “Galactic Guys” (John Ennis and Mighty Michael Taylor). Special thanks to our bearded buddy Teagan behind the glass and at the controls and keeping us on the air and sounding good. We also appreciate all of those helping behind the scenes at the station, the many networks that carry us and beyond. Prepare for Liftoff!! (Aired LIVE on Thursday, January 2, 2020)
