The future Interstate 14 around the north and east sides of Bryan/College Station is proposed to extend into west Texas and continue into Mississippi.

That's according to a resolution in the U.S. House that was supported at this week's Brazos County commission meeting.

The resolution calls for extending I-14 to the Midland/Odessa area and build freeway extensions connecting Beaumont and Junction to the new interstate.

Commissioner Nancy Berry and the director of the B-C-S metropolitan planning organization, Dan Rudge, says the resolution that is supported by members of Congress from Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi is part of the next federal highway bill.

Senator John Cornyn expects action on the highway bill to take place when members return from the August recess. Cornyn says funding for the new highway bill will come from a "user fee model" and not from raising the federal gas tax or increasing deficit spending.
