The College Station city council is moving ahead with the possible construction of a YMCA branch operated by the Williamson County Y.

Williamson County YMCA CEO Jeff Andresen told councilman Dennis Maloney if the city and/or any partners find the land and build a $20 million dollar center, the Y can operate it at no cost to the city.

Andresen also said the city would be responsible for capital equipment and capital maintenance.

College Station's parks and recreation director David Schmitz says there's enough room for city and YMCA programs.

City manager Bryan Woods...who was involved in starting a Y in another city, says he and the CEO at the Williamson County Y have many questions to research for the council and the community.

The Williamson County Y has a branch in Burnet, and city manager David Vaughn says the 50,000 square foot center has been a godsend.
