Description
The Bryan school board this week received an updated facilities assessment report. It's part of the groundwork of what's expected to be a large bond issue going before voters in...
show moreThe board received a presentation from the same consultant that developed recommendations used when Bryan ISD voters approved a $132 million dollar bond package in 2014.
PBK architects has identified almost $196 million dollars in priority projects to be done the next five years at existing schools and other district buildings.
PBK has identified another $87 million in priority projects that would be done in the next six to 11 years or beyond.
And PBK has identified $28 million in major projects. More than $26 million is targeted at the now closed Milam elementary school.
Bryan ISD communications director Matt LeBlanc says the consultant included complimenting the district on its maintenance efforts.
LeBlanc said the consultant pointed out BISD's transportation facility has outlived its life span, the affect of various renovations at Collegiate high school, and a section of the original Sul Ross elementary building that is still in use.
While the board is studying the 314 page report, LeBlanc says the district's newly created bond oversight committee will have its first meeting later this month. The committee is made up of parents, community members, employees, and board members.
After receiving public input, LeBlanc expects committee members to issue recommendations in late 2019 or early 2020.
