Joe Hachem is a rare guest that even if you don’t know poker you’ll know that he won the World Series of Poker Main event back in 2005 for $7.5mill USD. Despite that major achievement Joe has been playing and promoting poker for well over 35 years. Join us for a discussion to learn more about the wisdom and insights that he acquired throughout his incredible poker journey.
Joe takes pride in his values as a family man and, as we all know, poker can be very difficult to manage the balance between life and poker. This tends to have it’s impact on our mental health and ability to perform our best on the felt while still maintaining that life balance. In this episode Joe and Brendon discuss how to maintain healthy and fruitful relationships while in pursuit of your poker dreams. In summary even if you reach your poker goals and dreams but your relationships, health and life suffers in the process then you’ve missed the target.
Joe and Brendon also open up on the concept and evolution of Game Theory Optimal and it’s effect on the game. Interestingly, given that Joe has been around poker since before GTO was even introduced, he shared some fascinating view points on what the true crux of winning at poker really is. The spoiler here is that Joe admits that, while the foundations are important, he doesn’t use GTO calculators or solvers. He believes poker is a game of getting inside the mind of your opponent and using those aspects to your advantage.
