This week’s episode features Minnesota based Illustrator Tim Cortes. Tim and I were connected through Rob MacDougall of episode 137. Rob spoke really highly of Tim so I said, “Alright, let’s bring him on too!” Like Rob, Tim is also a sports illustrator and has made a great career of it drawing for big time leagues and various professional sports. Our subject today mostly centers around the idea of doing what you love, then sticking to what you know, and the importance of accuracy. I really couldn’t’ decide which one of those would be the title of this episode because all of those subjects were brought up and defined by Tim’s own experiences. He is such a great example of someone who found their niche, got really good at it, and stuck with it enough to build a reputation and now hardly ever hears the word “no.” He doesn’t have to pitch himself, but rather word of mouth makes people come to him. He’s gotten so good at his craft that he hasn’t had to spend any efforts on advertising. I hope this conversation inspires you to stick with it enough to find what you love to create, then have the patience to practice enough to get dangerously good, because it does get easier the longer you’re in the game. Let me know what you think of this week’s episode with Tim Cortes.
