We're a few days late, but in honour of Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, we're covering a terrible battle. From the First World War, so get ready for a massacre. This is part one of the story of the Battle of Passchendaele, where every awful part of the war came together to make one of the worst battles possible. Because of on top of barbed wire, machine guns, trenches, artillery and massed attacks that were the norm for WW1, Passchendaele also had rain and mud. Mud that's barely understandale to the average person.
In part one, we talk about where the Battle of Passchendaele took place (in the Ypres salient), why nearly everyone involved knew the attack was a bad idea, and why it went ahead anyway.
