show moreIt is an album that saw the band change their musical style drastically from their initial extreme metal sound to a more accessible form of metal that has since seen Being As An Ocean garner a solid worldwide fan base.
As a special thank you to fans the band is touring Dear – D… as a featured album, with the concert hitting Australian shores in August.
Vocalist Joel Quartuccio sat down with HEAVY to talk about the album and accompanying tour, starting with the fact many of these songs will be played live for the first time – at least to Australian audiences.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah,” he nodded. “Well, not any more! We did an anniversary Dear - D... tour at the beginning of this year in America, so we'll be playing the same set over there. Unfortunately, I will have to correct you a little bit, we're not going to be playing it in its entirety. There are a couple of songs that we are leaving out purposefully. We have compiled an 18 song playlist that incorporates a little bit more of what Being As An Ocean has been over the years. But there is 90% of Dear - D.. being played. I don't know if people could suffer a 15 minute instrumental song (laughs)."
In the full interview, Joel talks more about the song selection for the tour, playing older songs for the first time, the decision to play the shows in smaller and more intimate venues, his memories of the album 10 years later, recording it in a hotel and how that impacted things, starting as an extreme metal band and why they changed genre, the support bands for the tour and why they were chosen and more.
