My third look at GOLD RUSH ALASKA. This time I study how Jimmy Dorsey’s masculinity was portrayed. He’s a white-collar, ”Hipster-hunk” dropped into a world of Blue-collar Masculinity, in the Alaskan wilderness. Dorsey was part of the show the first 6 episodes and left after a fight with another participant. A ‘close reading’ of all the scenes he appears in the show. followed by the way Dorsey and these scenes are discussed in Youtube comments This leads to questions of authenticity, real vs fake, that I try to connect back to the concept of Hyper-reality.
