In this chapter of "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" titled "The Red-Headed League," Sherlock Holmes is contacted by a man named Jabez Wilson. Wilson, a red-haired pawnbroker, is concerned because his unusual employer, the "Red-Headed League," has suddenly ceased its activities, depriving him of his extra source of income.Holmes and Watson discover that Wilson was hired to copy a dictionary under peculiar conditions by this mysterious league, whose only members are red-haired men. However, after a period of diligent work, the league abruptly closes its doors, leaving Wilson puzzled.Holmes investigates and finds that the league was set up by a cunning man, John Clay, to occupy Wilson for a few hours each day, allowing Clay to execute a bank robbery plan through a cellar connected to the establishment where Wilson worked. With Holmes' intervention, the police manage to apprehend Clay as he attempts the robbery. Ultimately, Wilson is compensated for his work, and the criminals are apprehended.
